Kimberly Sherlaw, MSW
Kimberly took on the Director’s role in October 2023. She oversaw the final building renovations, shelter operations planning, hiring, and animal transfers in preparation for opening Reba’s Adoption Center in late November. Before joining Reba’s Animal Rescue, Kimberly served as the Executive Director of the Norfolk SPCA for ten years. During her combined tenure, she was instrumental in developing partnerships and raising funds to establish a veterinary clinic in collaboration with the City of Norfolk’s Animal Care Center.
In 2021, Kimberly led the opening of a Community Spay/Neuter Clinic, which performs over 7,500 low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, and a walk-in vaccination clinic serving over 10,000 clients annually. Under her leadership, the Norfolk SPCA achieved its highest-ever lifesaving records, with a combined total of more than 12,000 companion animals adopted.
Kimberly spent 4 years outside of Hampton Roads managing shelters and leading fundraising and humane education initiatives in Louisiana and overseas in Bermuda. During her time on the island, she was involved in animal cruelty investigations and provided rescue and sanctuary to companion animals, carriage horses, racing ponies, and livestock. With her marketing and fundraising expertise, Kimberly brings a wealth of experience to her current role.
In 1993, she received a master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Community Development from the University of Michigan, and in 1991, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Communications and Supervision from Purdue University.
Kimberly is dedicated to advancing the care and living conditions of companion animals in shelters, improving the professional training of animal welfare teams, fostering community engagement, and highlighting the meaningful bond between humans and companion animals, emphasizing their positive impact on our lives.
