Some dogs come to Reba’s with a difficult past. Others come with nothing but each other.
When the California wildfires tore through communities in San Diego, Babe and Buster were left behind with no safety net, no rescue waiting, and no clear future ahead of them. One person refused to let that happen. They loaded these two into a car and drove them across the country so they could have a second chance at life here with Reba’s Rescue.
They have been with us since June 2025.
Buster is Babe’s son, and from the very beginning, it was clear their bond was something special. Through every unfamiliar place, every medical appointment, every foster home, and every setback, they stayed close to one another. Babe became Buster’s comfort and stability. Buster became the reason Babe kept moving forward.
Buster arrived carrying more than emotional scars. Before coming to Reba’s, he had undergone surgery on his front wrist that did not heal properly, leaving him with a chronic injury that affected the way he walked and moved through the world. Since then, there have been countless vet visits, physical therapy sessions, recovery days, and patient encouragement helping him rebuild his strength.
The progress he has made has been incredible. But healing is rarely just physical.
During their foster placement, Babe and Buster spent 119 days learning how to feel safe again. Their foster volunteer poured endless love, time, walks, patience, and support into helping Buster heal while also giving both dogs the stability they desperately needed. Yet even with all that care, it became clear that separating them during work hours caused deep anxiety for both of them. Some bonds simply cannot be broken apart without heartbreak.
These two have already survived so much together.
Now they are looking for someone willing to give them the one thing they have never fully had: a peaceful, permanent home where they can stay side by side forever.
Babe is gentle, steady, and loving. She has the kind of calm presence that makes everyone around her feel safe. Buster looks to her for reassurance, confidence, and comfort. Together, they are soft-hearted survivors still learning that the world can be kind.
Their ideal home would include:
A fenced yard
A patient and understanding adopter
A quieter environment where they can continue to feel secure
Most importantly, a family willing to keep them together
At Reba’s, we believe every animal deserves a chance, even when the journey is long. Babe and Buster remind us why we never give up. They are proof that healing takes time, trust, and love that stays consistent through the hardest moments.
Now they just need someone willing to continue that story with them.
